The Book of Mud
Ali Cherri

The Book of Mud is a manifesto, a reverie, a story of the material imagination of earth and water. From floods and deluges to droughts and water scarceness, mud is the materialization of the aquatic reality of our world. Neither land nor water, and yet it is also both, mud embodies an in-between state and as such is a rich breeding ground not simply for practical resources, but also for the imagination. The Book of Mud is a book of memory. Of the past and the way it inscribes itself physically: eroding, shaping, reforming, becoming itself through upheaval and destruction. Mud is the vessel and the water within; it is the brick that roots us to place and home and the river that carries us to exploration elsewhere.
